Zombie Blog!

Monday, 13. September 2010 10:54

Yes, this blog is back from the dead, but that’s not what I mean. I did a guest blog over at the Black Library site in anticipation of the release of Zombieslayer. It’s entitled Life and Undeath in the Old World: A Seven Point Traveller’s Guide to Not Being Eaten by Zombies, and it’s a seven point traveller’s guide to not being eaten by zombies. Timely and informative. Click on the image to check it out!

Gamesday Baltimore!

Tuesday, 17. August 2010 7:23

I will be attending Games Workshop’s big convention, GAMESDAY BALTIMORE, on Aug 21st, and signing all day. I’ll also be doing a q+a and reading from Bloodforged, the sequel to Bloodborn, from 11:45 to 12:45. Come by if you’re in the area and hang out. It’ll be an author battle royal all day, with me, Dan Abnett, Gav Thorpe, C.L. Werner and Mike Lee in a steel cage fighting to see who is top of the Black Library heap.

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m going to break the rules and use a folding chair. What else would you expect from a blackheart?

Comic Con and the Scribe Awards

Monday, 19. July 2010 11:01

I have completely fallen down on this blog, and shame on me. I will try to get it going again soon, but not until after San Diego Comic Con. However, if you’re coming to the con, maybe I’ll see you there and I can fill you in on things in person. I will be there from Thursday afternoon until Sunday evening, mostly just wandering around and spending too much money.

I will, however, be attending one event. I am a nominee for the 2010 Scribe Awards for Shamanslayer, and will be attending the Scribe Awards Ceremony, then participating in the panel afterwards. The Scribe Awards will be held on Friday afternoon from 5:00 to 6:30 in room 4, wherever that is. HERE are the details from the programming guide. If you can make it, I would love to see you there, and if you happen to bring any of my books, I would be happy to sign them, as I don’t have an official signing this year.

Back from the Dead…

Sunday, 7. March 2010 19:47

And better than ever.

I delivered my first draft of Zombieslayer yesterday and have finally come up for air. I always get a little, uh, focused toward the end of a draft, and I really haven’t paid much attention to anything other than writing, so things like buying groceries, cleaning the house, bathing and updating this blog have sort of gone by the wayside. But now I’m done (at least with this draft) and I have a little time to breathe, so… let’s get back to the art and noise, shall we?

Then I’ll go take a bath…

Here is Maciej Kuciara painting of one of the classic fantasy tropes – the half naked barbarian woman. A lot of times this kind of subject matter gets a bit cheesy and dull, but I like what he’s done with it. Click on the pic to go to his site, which is filled with amazing stuff. He is a top-notch landscape and matte painting guy too.

Rough Work

Tuesday, 9. February 2010 16:43

Whew! The rough draft of Zombieslayer is done. 112,600 words, and most of them abysmal, but at least I’ve got something to work with now. Right. After a short break to rinse out my brain, I’m going to plunge back in and try to make it all mean something.

Wish me luck.

My Writing Process

Friday, 15. January 2010 10:23

Some of you may have seen this before, but I haven’t posted it here yet, so I thought would. This is officially a promo video for Shamanslayer, the latest Gotrek and Felix book, but since I didn’t know how to talk about that without spoilers, I decided to talk about my writing process instead. Have a look!

Gotrek and Felix get snowed in!

Saturday, 9. January 2010 13:52

Cool!

I just got a preview copy of Death and Dishonour, my latest book from Black Library. I didn’t write the whole thing – it’s an anthology of sword and sorcery stories set in the Warhammer world, but I do have the honour of leading it off with a tale of Gotrek and Felix entitled Red Snow, in which the poet and the slayer find themselves trapped in a blizzard in the Mountains of Mourn.

Here, check out the cover, and click through it to Amazon if you want to pre-order. death-and-dishonour

It’s an Honor Just to be Nominated…

Monday, 23. November 2009 12:34

Woo hoo! For the second year in a row, I have been nominated for a David Gemmell Award, this time for Shamanslayer. The award is for the best heroic fantasy novel of the year. The field is wide and deep and I’m up against some stiff competition, but, as the title of the post says, it’s an honor just to be nominated.
